The new flower discovered in Thailand has been named after Lisa, a Thai member of the K-pop girl group Black Pink.
According to the Bangkok Post on the 13th, a research team from Chiang Mai University found a new species of flowering plant that had never been observed before in the world.
The research team named the plant "Larisa," which is Lisa's real name, to honor her as a member of the world-renowned girl group BLACKPINK.
One of the researchers is reportedly a big fan of Lisa, who was inspired by her and earned a doctorate.
The newly discovered anonaceae plant was collected in Narathiwat province in southern Thailand. The plant has a strong smell and is said to be endangered.
The research team has been working on projects to find and preserve rare and unknown plants with the support of Thailand's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation.
BLACKPINK, who have become world stars, are also gaining explosive popularity in Thailand. Starting in January in Bangkok, BLACKPINK will be performing at the Rajamangala National Stadium, Thailand's largest concert hall, from the 27th to the 28th of next month.
Thai fans are especially interested in Lisa, who is from their country. Every move Lisa makes becomes a hot topic and is reported in local media.
When Lisa said she missed meatballs from her hometown of Buriram, fans flocked, and recently, the Thai specialty "Yadom," which Lisa was holding in a photo posted on social media, was sold out.
