Girl Group BLACKPINK Expected to Re-sign with YG Entertainment.
On April 4th, Korean media reported that all members of BLACKPINK, whose contracts are set to expire at the end of August, have decided to renew their contracts with YG Entertainment.
Sources close to the group indicated that the members, who still have four months left on their current contracts, plan to stay with YG Entertainment unless there is a specific reason not to.
BLACKPINK's ongoing world tour appears to have played a significant role in their decision. The tour, which is the largest ever for a K-pop girl group, is expected to draw 1.5 million fans from around the world.
Last year, the group completed their 14th North American performance in seven cities and their 10th European tour in seven cities, in addition to meeting with fans in Asia.
In mid-April, BLACKPINK will headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the United States, followed by a performance at the Hyde Park British Summer Time Festival in the United Kingdom in July.
Officials suggest that the team's accomplishments have further strengthened the trust between BLACKPINK and YG Entertainment. The group has been active for nearly seven years, and has been recognized as a leading global girl group. They have set impressive records, leading overseas charts such as the Billboard chart, and have established themselves as "global hot icons." All members have served as global brand ambassadors.
If BLACKPINK renews their contracts in August, YG Entertainment will continue to be a strong force in K-pop, including G-Dragon, BLACKPINK, Winner, Akdong Musician, Treasure, and the new girl group Baby Monster, set to debut soon.
