"I have long suspected the idea that only humans will remain the creators of music. The time will not last long when only human artists can satisfy people's needs and tastes. Even if the second BTS doesn't come out, another K-pop singer who topped "Hot 100" could come out."
HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk announced a collaboration project with Superton, a company with voice synthesis AI technology, in an interview for the April issue of Billboard K-pop, a U.S. music magazine, released on the 26th. "We acquired Superton, a company that can perfectly replicate human voices," he said. "We are collaborating with Superton on 'Project L' and plan to announce the results next month."
"Superton's technology can not only mimic voices, but also perfectly simulate certain accents and characteristics, such as age," he added. "If you apply a certain person's accent to a recorded voice, you will hear a completely different voice."
Regarding the theory that K-pop groups that will continue BTS's global success are not noticeable, Chairman Bang said, "The experience of growing BTS and running multi-label has created strong connections and know-how for HYBE. With this, HYBE will be able to help talented artists again."
Chairman Bang held a global audition in collaboration with Geffen Records under Universal Music Group (UMG) and said, "Since last year, we have been looking for a global partner to join the Latin genre. We will look for ways to create boy groups or girl groups suitable for the music market, such as hip-hop and Latin." It added that this is why it recently acquired the U.S. hip-hop label "QC Media Holdings.""
"Girl group's success is the spirit of the times"
"Newjeans has entered the Hot 100 without any offline promotions in North America, and LE SSERAFIM is increasing listeners at an alarming rate on Spotify," he said, referring to HYBE's label ADOR's group Newjeans and Source Music's LE SSERAFIM.
Regarding the recent success of girl groups such as LE SSERAFIM and Newjeans, Chairman Bang said, "I think it is related to the spirit of the times," adding, "The achievements of female artists in the North American market alone stand out." "As the culture of supporting women is strengthened, the support of female fans is rapidly increasing," he said. He then said, "It is noteworthy whether the girl group will be able to surpass the boy group in terms of profits."
