What is Shazam?
Shazam is a mobile application that enables users to identify the name and artist of a song by listening to a short audio clip of it. The app uses audio recognition technology to analyze the song and match it with a database of millions of songs. Once the song is identified, the user can then purchase it, watch its music video, or stream it through a music service. Shazam also provides charts and playlists of the most popular songs in various countries and genres. The app was founded in 1999 and is now owned by Apple Inc.
The interesting fact is that Shazam started the service even before the smartphone was released, and in 2002, when he dialed 2580 on his cell phone and played songs on the phone, Shazam texted the name of the song and the name of the musician's name.
