While rapper Ravi, a fmember of the group VIXX, is on trial for evading military service by falsely claiming to have epilepsy, the indictment has been released. It is alleged that Ravi and his agency forced him to take medication despite the doctor's opinion that he had no special symptoms.
On the 3rd of April, Yonhap News reported the indictment of Ravi, co-chairman of his agency Grublin Kim, and rapper Nafla, submitted by the People's Power Council Office from the Ministry of Justice.
According to reports, Ravi underwent a military service physical examination in 2012 and was diagnosed with third-degree active duty due to bronchial asthma, but later continued to postpone military service and was diagnosed with fourth-degree in 2019.
In February 2021, Ravi contacted broker Koo to evade military service. According to the indictment, Kim, who is co-representative of Ravi and his agency, met Koo, a broker, while looking for ways to postpone and evade Ravi and Nafla's military service. Koo proposed to Ravi a plan to evade military service using false epilepsy symptoms and signed a contract worth 50 million won in success compensation.
Later, Ravi acted as if he had suddenly fainted according to the "false epilepsy" scenario and falsely reported it to 119. Ravi refused to be hospitalized in the emergency room, lied, and booked neurological outpatient treatment, explained false symptoms to the doctor, and scheduled an EEG test, etc. according to the scenario that Koo informed.
However, the doctor diagnosed that no special abnormal symptoms were confirmed, and Koo ordered Ravi to make a protest request. In the end, Ravi received medical treatment such as prescription of medicine in June of the same year and was issued a medical certificate containing a diagnosis related to epilepsy. Koo sent a text message saying, "Good, military exemption."
The indictment states that Ravi took epilepsy drugs the evening before a thorough physical examination and pretended to have real epilepsy symptoms.
He was exempted from the 5th grade military by the Military Manpower Administration in May last year but was judged to be the 4th grade in September that year, judging that there was an error in calculating the drug prescription period. Ravi later enlisted as a social worker in October last year.
In addition, according to the indictment, rapper Nafla, who is under the same agency as Ravi, falsely claimed during a meeting with a public official in charge of Seocho-gu Office, where he was serving, that his mental illness worsened and caused a suicidal urge. The prosecution believes that Nafla visited the hospital periodically and was prescribed medicine but did not take it. Additionally, officials from the Seoul Regional Military Manpower Administration and Seocho-gu Office conspired to help Nafla release from military service early by manipulating the daily service status department as if he had worked normally when he did not go to work.
Earlier in January, a group of brokers were arrested on charges of evading military service, and it was revealed that Ravi, a former member of the group VIXX, contacted the broker during the investigation. Suspicions arose that Ravi was also diagnosed as a fourth-degree supplementary role due to epilepsy, and the agency at the time said, "We will faithfully investigate at any time if there is a request regarding this case."
Since then, Nafla, who is under the same agency as Ravi, has been found to have been working as a social service worker at Seocho-gu Office in Seoul since February 2021 and has been found to have received preferential treatment by making it look like he went to work without going to work.
Ravi, if he's admitted to false epilepsy, he could be re-enlisted..Psy, who was admitted to poor service, was also notified of re-enlistment
Ravi has been serving as a social worker for about three months. If he is indicted and handed over to trial according to the prosecution's investigation, Ravi may have to re-enter the military as an active player depending on the outcome of the ruling.
Of course, you may be punished for violating the military service law. It is punishable by imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than five years for "act of deception for the purpose of avoiding or reducing military service obligations" prescribed in Article 86 of the Military Service Act.
According to the recently revised Enforcement Decree of the Military Service Act, he can serve again as an active duty even if he is sentenced to more than one and a half years in prison for evading military service.
