The new girl group "FIFTY FIFTY" has entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, setting a new record for the shortest time for a K-pop group, four months after their debut. This achievement is particularly remarkable because it was made by a small to medium-sized agency, not a large one such as HYBE, SM, JYP, and YG.
According to Billboard's Twitter and other sources, on March 27th (local time), the title track of FIFTY FIFTY's first single, "The Beginning: Cupid," released on February 24th, entered the 100th spot on the Hot 100 chart released on April 1st. This achievement was accomplished just four months after their debut on November 18th of last year, beating Newjeans' record of six months to enter the chart, making it the fastest K-pop group to achieve this feat.
Furthermore, FIFTY FIFTY has become one of only five K-pop girl groups to enter the Hot 100 chart, alongside Wonder Girls, Black Pink, TWICE, and Newjeans. Including the global supergroup 'BTS, it is the sixth K-pop group to enter the chart.
FIFTY FIFTY first appeared on the Billboard charts on March 11th, ranking eighth on the "Billboard World Digital Song Sales" chart. On March 25th, they also ranked 106th on the "Billboard Global 200," 12th on the "Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100," and 20th on the "Billboard Emerging Artist" chart.
FIFTY FIFTY consists of four Korean members, Saena, Aran, Kina, and Shio, under the management of Attract, led by Jeon Hong-joon, a veteran producer in the music industry who has produced albums by Yang Soo-kyung, Bobby Kim, and Ha Sung-woon. The group was produced from the beginning with the North American market in mind. Although the group did not receive much attention at the time of its debut, it gained popularity in the North American market solely by word of mouth that the song was good. This is evident from the fact that most of the comments on their YouTube videos are in foreign languages such as English.
Attract's official explained, "It was not easy for a small company to invest in an idol group for 30 months, but it was possible because the members and staff worked hard, and Jeon's courage was there."
