K-pop's fourth-generation boy group "TXT" (Tomorrow X Together) has been announced as the headliner for the major US music festival "Lollapalooza." The fourth-generation girl group "Newjeans" will also be included in the festival's lineup, only a year after their debut. Both teams are affiliated with record labels - TXT with Big Hit Music and Newzins with Adore - and are part of the HYBE Labels group.
According to Big Hit Music and Lollapalooza, "Lollapalooza 2023" will be held in Chicago, Illinois from August 3-6, with TXT as the headliner.
Last year, TXT made their North American festival debut through the "Lollapalooza" stage and have now become headliners within a year. They have been gaining traction in the North American market, particularly with their recently released fifth mini-album "The Chapter of Name: Temptation," which topped the U.S. Billboard main album chart, "Billboard 200."
"Lollapalooza" has a 30-year history and has featured legendary musicians such as Paul McCartney from British band "The Beatles," American heavy metal group "Metallica," and Britpop band "Coldplay."
Last year, J-Hope, a member of global supergroup "BTS," who is a senior under the same agency as TXT, drew attention as a headliner. J-Hope was the first Korean artist to headline a major North American music festival.
TXT is the first K-pop group to be the headliner for "Lollapalooza." Other major musicians headlining with them at this year's festival include U.S. hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar, who won the Pulitzer Prize, U.S. pop star Billie Eilish, one of the Z-generation icons, and four-member U.S. rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Newjeans, although not headlining, is also attracting attention in "Lollapalooza." They achieved this feat last year after only a year of their official debut, and have been named in the lineup despite never having promoted in the US. Newjeans gained popularity in the mainstream pop market by staying on the U.S. Billboard's main single chart, "Hot 100," for six weeks through word-of-mouth alone. Their first single "OMG" and the track "Ditto" ranked 74th and 82nd, respectively, on the "Hot 100" chart.
Meanwhile, TXT is embarking on its second world tour, with a total of 23 performances in 13 cities around the world. They will kick off the tour on March 25th and 26th at the KSPO DOME in Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul. Newjeans, on the other hand, are currently working on a new album while continuing to tackle an ever-increasing amount of advertising opportunities.
