Korean Pattern Dancheong Umbrella
Korean Pattern Dancheong Umbrella features traditional patterns of Korea, with high quality craftsmanship.
Handmade in Korea with love and care.
Inspired by historical art
Dancheong is a Korean traditional decorative coloring on wooden buildings and artifacts for style. It is one of Korea’s most iconic patterns, instantly recognizable. The style is used in important places, such as temples and palaces – usually on the eaves of temple’s roofs with patterns of animals. Dancheong is meant to blend in with the colors of nature, encompassing the philosophy of continuity between the house and mother earth that our ancestors held.
The Korean Pattern Dancheong Umbrella was made under the guidance from a national heritage certified expert in Dancheong, to ensure that the modern adaptation of the design does not damage the long history of Dancheong.
Craftmanship
Most Korean umbrella manufacturers ceased to exist after the IMF financial crisis of the late 90s. Mimidar, in aspirations of reviving the Korean umbrella industry, collaborated with an umbrella craftsman with over 30 years of experience in making umbrellas. The umbrella is handmade in Korea, with over a year spent in design development and testing – for the most practical and beautiful umbrella.

These are as pretty and sturdy as they look. I thought I would give them as gifts but now I think I want them for myself and will just change them depending on my outfit. Very well-made, very sophisticated, and honestly they have been the topic of conversation a few times. When was the last time you got noticed just for your umbrella? Even the carboard tubes they come in are elegant — I kept them just for neat storage (only when the ‘brella is dry, of course…)
