Actually, Korea is experiencing severe fine dust levels right now as I answer this. Perfect timing.

First off, the number one concern in Korea’s air quality is fine dust/ ultra fine dust. These are tiny dust particles that are up in the air everywhere, and they stick in your lungs once you breathe them in. It’s definitely not good for your health, and can cause itchiness, shortness of breath, headaches and respiratory problems.

It can get pretty bad on a lot of the days, I’d say about 20~30% of the days here are filled with fine dust, and you need to wear a mask if you really want to go outside. Whether these are dangerous to a level where you will want to not travel here, I can’t make that call, it’s your decision. However, if you are here you should definitely check dust levels on websites like these before you go out. (higher the number, more particles, red = bad)
