Ramyun & Chill is a dating show created by NAKD SEOUL & DKDKTV. 

ABOUT THE SHOW

“RAMYUN & CHILL” is the combination of the famous K-drama line “Do you want to go eat Ramyun (at my place)?” and the well-known western dating line “Wanna Netflix and Chill?” Just like the title of the show, we would like to bring attractive Korean males and international females in Korea together for a cute and exciting dating experience. Will the show turn out like a K-drama? or Too Hot to Handle? We don’t know either! And that’s exactly the fun of it! There will be cultural differences and language barriers. But you know what they say, “Love transcends all.” Let’s find out how true this saying is by watching these singles from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries mingle with each other at a spectacularly romantic location.

WHY WE’RE MAKING THIS

It is probably not an understatement to say that Korean culture has become explosively popular across the globe with the help of K-dramas/films, K-pop, and BTS mostly.  According to many articles and research, it is proven that the craze in Korean pop culture has attracted more tourists, and foreigners than ever to come to Korea.

Yet, Korea is still a very homogenous society. According to KOSTAT, the ratio of foreigners in Korea is a mere 3-4%. However, things might change soon, as the number of multi-cultural families and foreigners coming to Korea to settle down is increasing by the year.  The OECD defines a ‘multi-national/ethnical nation’ when more than 5% of the country is a different ethnicity from the aboriginal ethnicity. This means, that in the near future, Korea might soon be categorized as a multinational country.

However, are Koreans ready to become a multinational country? Many, including Koreans themselves, would answer “No.” Before we even get to all the heavy terms like nationalism, Confucianism, racism, and xenophobia, the average Korean has probably never had many opportunities to talk to or be friends with a foreigner. Obviously, it would be even rarer for a Korean to date a foreigner or vice versa.

Personally, we have seen so many friends that are interested in dating a non-Korean but hesitate to, because they are too scared or insecure about the language barrier or cultural differences. Through “RAMYUN & CHILL”, not only do we want to make an entertaining dating show, but we also want to provide a platform, a bridge, and representation for potential international couples in Korea. We want to show the natural dynamics of what an international dating experience would be like in Korea and hopefully give more courage to anyone who might want to try.

In the long run, we believe that love, communication, and experience are what help people with differences understand each other, and make a better society. We would like “Ramyun & Chill” to make the international dating scene in Korea more comfortable and normalized, ultimately resulting in broadening the Korean society’s perspectives on many global aspects as well.
