The Korean dramas "The Glory" and "Mask Girl," available on the Netflix series, have received nominations for the 29th Critics' Choice Awards in the Best Foreign Language Series category.
As reported by Netflix on the 6th, both "The Glory" and "Mask Girl" have been nominated for the 29th Critics' Choice Awards, scheduled to take place on January 14, 2024 (local time) in the United States.
The Critics' Choice Awards is an event organized by the Critics' Choice Association, the largest organization of critics in North America. In the same category, the 28th drama starring Park Eun-bin, "Strange Lawyer Woo Young-woo," also secured a nomination. In the 27th edition, the Netflix series "Squid Game" emerged victorious, and actor Lee Jung-jae received the Best Actor Award in a Drama Series.
"The Glory" tells the story of a woman who, as a child, endured soul-crushing violence, dedicating her entire life to preparing for a desperate revenge, and those who become ensnared in the resulting vortex. Within just three days of Part 2's release, it garnered an impressive 124.46 million viewers, securing the top spot in Netflix's global Top 10 TV (non-English) ranking. Furthermore, it claimed the overall first position in both English and non-English categories, spanning TV and film genres, and ranked first in 23 countries, including South Korea, while making it into the Top 10 in 79 countries.
"Mask Girl" revolves around Kim Mo-mi, an ordinary office worker with a complex about her appearance, who becomes entangled in an unintended incident while working as a BJ for Internet broadcasting, concealing her face with a mask every night. The series portrays Kim's tumultuous life. In its second week of release, it secured the No. 1 spot in the global top 10 TV (non-English) category on Netflix and featured in the top 10 list in 72 countries. It gained significant attention for its daring casting of three characters, encompassing various genres such as social criticism and black comedy, appearance supremacy, and addressing a wide range of topics, including school violence.
