"SM artists' songs were ranked the most in the '100 Greatest Songs in K-pop History' selected by Rolling Stone in the U.S.
SM Entertainment's music (hereinafter referred to as SM) has listed a total of 14 songs in 'The 100 Greatest Songs in the History of Korean Pop Music' (the 100 greatest songs in K-pop history) by Rolling Stone in the United States.
Rolling Stone announced 'The 100 Greatest Songs in the History of Korean Pop Music' on its official website on the 20th. The list includes music from SM artists such as Girls' Generation's 'Gee,' which topped the list, H.O.T., S.E.S., BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, SHINee, f(x), EXO, Red Velvet, NCT, and AESPA, ranking the most songs among entertainment companies.
In particular, Rolling Stone praised Girls' Generation's 'Gee' as No. 1 and praised the 33rd-ranked debut song 'Into The New World' as 'an important story of a girl group in the late 2000s and early 2010s when K-pop was globally popular.'
Super Junior's 'SORRY, SORRY,' ranked 12th, introduced 'earworm,' a song that continues to haunt the ears, and Red Flavor, ranked 13th, showed 'a song with summer fun, adventure, and romantic taste,' and SHINee's 'Lucifer,' ranked 16th, showed 'a boundary' and 'a song that transcended the concept.'
The article then explained that '4 Walls' is 'the most evolved form of EDM pop' for f(x) and BoA's songs ranked 17th and 18th, respectively, and 'No.1' is 'BoA's most iconic crossover hit.'
TVXQ's 'MIROTIC,' ranked 25th, was called an 'incredibly attractive title song,' and EXO's 'Growl,' ranked 34th, was praised as 'the most thrilling boy band's mega-hit of the era,' and NCT 127's 'Cherry Bomb,' ranked 59th, as 'a masterpiece that has made K-pop the most ambitious and exploratory.'
No. 86 Taemin's 'MOVE' proved the global influence of SM's music and artists by introducing 'the song that caused a sensation among idols and dancers with genderless choreography,' and No. 89 AESPA's 'Next Level' as 'the first addictive song of a K-pop group with an AI avatar.'
In addition, songs by legendary groups that have made SM's history, such as H.O.T.'s 'Candy' in the second place and S.E.S.'s 'I'm Your Girl' in 27th place, were selected to realize SM's music history and status."
