The preliminary candidate of the ruling party, who is set to run in the Mexican presidential election next June, has made a pledge to bring the group BTS.
Marcelo Ebrard, former Foreign Minister and member of the MORENA, mentioned the invitation to BTS at an animation festival in Actofan, central Dalgo, on the 8th (local time).
When asked by festival participants about the possibility of inviting BTS, Ebrard replied, "In 2024, as soon as (BTS members) finish their military service, or in 2025."
"I hope that we will be able to host them here, or that they will invite me," he added.
Former Minister Ebrard is making all-out efforts to win the hearts of BTS fans. He posted a video mentioning BTS on social networking services (SNS), saying, "How do you like this? Shouldn't we bring them here?" and exposed it to fans by attaching hashtags like BTS and ARMY.
At the end of the video, a photo of a shirt and hat with a logo symbolizing BTS' fan club ARMY is also eye-catching. The video received over 770,000 views in less than a day after being published.
Local media reported on his actions with positive comments on the video.
Ebrard has been the foreign minister since December 2018, and he resigned last month in accordance with the rules of the primary race for candidates for the ruling party's presidential election.
Marcelo Ebrard, a K-pop fan, also attended the Black Pink concert in Mexico City in April.
Mexico's presidential election is scheduled for June 2 next year, and the term begins on December 1 of the same year.
Meanwhile, the military service of BTS has commenced with the enlistment of its members. Jin and J-Hope are currently serving, and the remaining members will join the army sequentially. Big Hit Music, the agency, predicts that their full activities will resume in 2025.
