BTS member Jimin's solo album was deemed ineligible for KBS broadcasting.
According to the music review results released by the Korean public broadcaster KBS on the 22nd, "Face-off," a song from Jimin's first solo album "FACE," was disqualified. The reason is that the lyrics use abusive language, slang, and vulgar expressions.
"Face Off" is the first track on "Face," and Jimin and member RM also participated in its creation, along with Pdogg, GHSTLOOP, and EVAN.
How does KBS determine its music review? KBS releases the results of its music review every Wednesday morning. At this time, there are 15 criteria for ineligibility, including distortion of historical facts, anti-social and unhealthy content, abusive lyrics, disparaging the disabled, and expressions of disgust.
KBS reviews an average of over 200 songs per week, of which less than 10 are deemed ineligible for broadcasting. The majority of reasons for ineligibility are "specific brand" exposure or "slow expression." If the brand name of a specific brand commonly used by the general public is mentioned in the lyrics, it is also deemed "ineligible."
However, this is not the first time that KBS and BTS have had a bad relationship. BTS has been deemed "ineligible" by KBS reviews several times.
1. 2015.11.25 / Mini Album 4th album 'Hwayangyeonhwa pt.2'
KBS ruled that "Ma City," a song from BTS' "Hwayang Yeonhwa pt.2," was ineligible because it mentioned certain brands of Ilsan shopping malls such as La Festa and Western Dome. "Whalien 52" was then criticized for including swear words such as "baby" and "Fuk," and "INTRO: Never Mind," the first track of the album, was also deemed ineligible for its use of swear words and slang such as "If it's close," "As it gets tangled," "I don't give a s** I don't give a f***."
Fortunately, the title song "RUN" was eligible. "RUN" is a song in which the electric guitar line, which creates an oriental feeling, is combined with rock elements, and continues its sadness and intensity in "I NEED U."
2. 2017.02.08 / 2nd full-length repackage album "YOU NEVER WALK ALONE"
KBS ruled that BTS' "YOU NEVER WALK ALONE" song "Outro: Wings" was ineligible for broadcasting. The lyrics of "Outro: Wings," which include the phrase "Don't be scared," were deemed ineligible because they contained abusive language, slang, and vulgar expressions. At the time, Big Hit stated, "There are no plans to reconsider the song Outro: Wings from the new album 'WING' (YOU NEVER WALK ALONE), which was deemed ineligible for broadcasting by KBS."
3. 2017.09.20 / 5th mini album "LOVE YOURSELF 承 Her"
KBS did not approve the deliberation due to specific brand references, swearing, slang, vulgar expressions, and beep processing, such as "Pied Piper," "GO GO" from BTS' 5th mini album, "Skit: Hesitation and Fear," and "Sea." In particular, the name of a specific SNS (Twitter) was included in the lyrics of 'Pied Piper,' making it ineligible for broadcasting.
4. 2022.06.08 / Anthology album "Proof"
On June 8th, 2022, it was reported that BTS's album "Proof" had received a review of its songs on the KBS website. Unfortunately, the tracks "Run BTS" and "Born Singer" were deemed ineligible due to their use of abusive language, slang, and vulgar expressions. Additionally, the song "For Youth" was put on hold because the concert hall sound effect played for the first 30 seconds, rendering the lyrics unintelligible. However, the title song "Yet To Come" was deemed eligible.
