A must-go cafe for music lovers. The rise of ‘LP bars/cafes’ that play vinyl records has been a fascinating trend in Seoul, and there is no place like Music Complex Seoul that dedicates its identity to the medium.
Located in Insadong, the large 50+ seat cafe features turntables and headphones at each table. Some tables have 2~4 pairs of headphones for shared listening. There is a library of thousands of records on the walls, all free to choose and listen to. Finding the record you exactly want will likely be tough, as the collection has no particular sorting system and customers simply place them back wherever they please. However, it also highlights one of the most fun elements of being a vinyl collector - listening to random albums based off of purely the album art.
The collection is vast, the artists in the collection range from well known artists like The Beach Boys to obscure world music from the other side of the planet. You really don’t know what you’re going to find when looking at a shelf. A young Korean couple listening to Moroccon Gnawa music together is something I never would’ve imagined seeing.
